Without E3, fans have been left without one giant showcase of the newest video games coming out within the next year. To make up for this, several gaming companies tried to fill this E3-sized hole by holding their own showcases, with the biggest one being Summer Games Fest. For the smaller in-scope, independent games, there is the Future Games Show from the website Gamesradar. This year’s event featured many games that could easily go unnoticed by the public. Here are some of the most important ones shown during the event.

Die by the Blade
From independent developer and publisher Kwalee comes Die by the Blade. The game is a 1v1 fighter, revolving around sword combat and one-hit kills. It will have online and local multiplayer, which many games don’t have anymore. Each weapon has its own playstyle, which means you’ll want to experiment to find the one that fits you best. In addition to multiplayer, there is a single-player campaign and character customization. The game will be available sometime in 2022 and can currently be added to a wishlist on Steam.
Robobeat
This week of game reveals was filled with rhythm-based, first-person shooters, and this trend continues with Robobeat, which is a rogue-lite where you play as a robot named Frazzer, who has to escape a mansion. To escape, you’ll have to shoot your way through waves of enemies while you attack to the beat of whatever song you’ve chosen. Shooting to the beat will allow you to build a combo, which will allow you to unlock new songs. Outside of shooting combat, it also involves jumping, wall-running and even a grappling hook. The game will be available in 2023, but you can sign up now for the playtest on Steam to give it a try.

Turbo Golf Racing
There have been many games in the past few years that some have called the “new Rocket League,” but Turbo Golf Racing may actually be that. The game has almost the same premise as Rocket League, except that it revolves around golf, not soccer. Up to eight players compete as they try to hit their oversized golf ball to the finish flag. This game is more focused on racing, rather than scoring points. On the way to the finish flag, players will use tunnels, fire missiles and boost pads to finish first. Turbo Golf Racing will feature car customization that adds abilities to your car, allowing you to hit the ball farther than your opponents or fly faster than them. A demo is available now on Steam. The game will launch on August 4 for PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. It will be available day one on Xbox Game Pass.
American Arcadia
If you took the plot of the Jim Carrey film The Truman Show and made it into a video game, you’d have American Arcadia. The game’s story is about a city that is the subject of a reality show. Its citizens are unaware of this as each one of them is a character in the show with their own ratings. Once ratings start to drop, so do the bodies. The protagonist is an office worker who is considered boring and marked for death because of his low rating. The player must escape the city and survive. The game will switch between a 2D side scroller and a first-person perspective as you solve puzzles, sneak past enemies and outrun pursuers. American Arcadia does not have a release date, but it will be available on PC and consoles in the future and can be added to a wishlist on Steam.
Serial Cleaners
Serial Cleaner was originally released in 2017 and let players clean up crime scenes without getting caught. The sequel, Serial Cleaners, is a return to that formula with some new additions — the biggest being its setting. Serial Cleaners takes place in the 1990s, as opposed to the 1970s like the previous game. It draws inspiration from 90s pop culture. The goal of the game, once again, is to clean up crime scenes by hiding evidence and bodies. This time around, there are new cleaners to play, as each one has a distinct playstyle, which adds replayability to the game. You can get your hands on the game when it is released on September 22 on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
The Entropy Centre
The Entropy Centre is a very obvious homage to Valve’s Portal series that wears its inspiration on its sleeve. The game takes place after an event destroyed the earth. You play as the last human alive and must save humanity using ASTRA, an advanced AI that can rebuild objects and rewind time. ASTRA seems to be an homage to Portal’s GLaDOS, but she seems nicer and can reheat tea. The game is a single-player adventure, but it will have a level editor according to Steam. The Entropy Centre will be out later this year for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PC.
